What is the difference between a pallet, a crate and a case?
Wooden pallets or skids create a base for goods to sit on, while a wooden crate or wooden box covers the goods in a rigid, four-walled structure. This provides the highest level of protection for the contents, whether for shipment or to keep sensitive goods protected in the warehouse.
Crates have slatted sides from the top to the bottom and can have a lid if required. They are ideal to minimise the overall packaged weight, such as for air freight. They offer internal visibility and to allow air circulation.
Cases have many names (also known as pallet boxes, export cases, containers, or bulk boxes) are completely enclosed, providing extra security and protection against dust and damage during transportation or warehousing. Timber cases can be a cost-effective way to transport bulk items which may need a container to hold them in place.
